My third, and most recent, purchase of Mini Metro is on the Nintendo Switch which has the best of both worlds playing using the touch-screen in hand-held mode, and the controller when docked on my TV. Now I’ve bought Mini Metro on PC but I’ve only booted it up once or twice. There are additional statistics, which clearly I’d enjoy, but there’s just something a little bit off about playing on PC compared to playing on a touch-screen device. Not one of the 200-odd passengers were injured in the crash. Slowly but surely this network withstood the increasing passengers and operated continuously for over an hour until I tried to save a gif and the damn iPad crashed. This may be one of the optimum networks for the game’s London level. Perhaps it was the ageing processing power of my seven-year-old iPad mini 2 but this game reached stability. This screenshot documents my moment of bliss. Alongside a BAFTA award, you know this would have bagged a Screenie award from me at some point. It’s a soundscape that surrounds completely. The soundscape is a gentle accompaniment of tones that chime as trains pass along and across the lines you draw. I’m always short one of these items and reaching the next milestone, which grants you a choice of one item, becomes a challenge of keeping an increasing number of plates spinning with the same number of sticks.Įven up to the point of collapse, Mini Metro is zen. You are always short of resources, be it more lines, trains, tunnels, carriages or the powerful interchange. Much like the London Underground, Mini Metro is, in a sense, a survival horror game. It’s a game of adapting, expanding and commuting. Stations appear, often of a shape that forces a reconsideration of the design of the network. If a station becomes overcrowded the game fails. The objective is to design a working metro network by drawing lines between the geometric stations in order for the passengers (not shown in the gifs) to make their little geometric commutes. The gifs in this article show a timelapse of some of my games of Mini Metro. Mini Metro is simple and elegant and very, very good. If not any less painful on the human body. The system ID I sent you to replace the original one will work as long as you deactivte it, uninstall the older MC and then downlaod and install the newer to activate. I'm around all weekend and next week so ping me if you get into a pickle. It may therefore be a wise move not to get MC5 running on this new machine at all but go straight to 5.5 - it's just that ther upgrade would be sooner than I would really like (or could afford at the moment!). How can I confirm I have the correct serial number before going through hoops again?!Īlternatively, if/when I do decide to upgrade to 5.5, I guess I'd get another serial number for that (?). I'vopened MC on the old machine to get the serial number from that - 'About' I would have thought - but only the Sys ID is there, no serial number. But the emails show I had activation problems still following that - and I cannot find any record of another serial number among the emails (so that one may have been made to work for MC5.0). But i remember when upgrading to Version 5 I was given a new serial number - which 'didn't work: I was told at the time by Marianna that it was a 'Student' number, and she gave me a new one - which I have. I have the System ID, and the original Serial number that came with MC4.05. Learn how to use these tools to identify your Mac. Touching up old or unsightly walls – Walls can take a beating over time, and a skim coat is a great way to restore the like-new appearance of walls without completely replacing them.Retexturing after a drywall repair – After a repair, a skim coat is often used to prep the wall for paint or texture.A skim coat can take care of these blemishes. Fixing damage from wallpaper – Removing wallpaper often damages the drywall behind it by creating gouges or tearing off the drywall’s outer paper. Here are four common instances when a skim coat is a worthwhile decision. With our help we can make the process easy. Shop taping and finishing tools When should I apply a skim coat?Īpplying a skim coat to a wall is fairly easy to do yourself, but you should first be able to recognize when such a process is warranted. This is often one of the primary steps in a remodel of a new or existing home. The idea is to create a fresh surface to then apply your own touch. Once the skim coat is applied, the surface is then often painted or retextured. It can also be applied in the form of either a single layer to touch up a small area or multiple layers to provide a smooth surface with which to work. It is usually done to repair damage and improve appearance. Skim coating – also known as a level-five drywall finish – is the process of smoothing over worn or damaged drywall with a thin coat of diluted joint compound in order to improve the look of the surface. POTENTIAL COSTS: $20 to $50 (Depending on what tools you own) Here’s how to tell when it’s time to skim coat your walls and how to go about doing so. One of my first experiences of someone going "**** it, leave it for the next guy." To be fair I must have been 50+ years later, but still.Skim coating can be a great way to smooth out or prepare worn or damaged walls for a touchup and is a relatively easy task that even novice drywall workers can add to their arsenal. A lot started to peel up, and I had to feather in peeling wallpaper that they thought was peeling paint. I just say this as I have a really bad taste in my mouth from one job where people did paint over wallpaper, with dating from the 1940s. However, now due to VOC laws oil is expensive and pointless, so I'm trying to switch to BIN for most oil uses. I've also never used Gardz for wallpaper glue, just plain oil primers. I can't imagine unless the stuff was tenaciously adhered somehow removal would be that difficult, unless it's been painted over. If it's already painted over, likely removing it's gonna be a pain in the ass and a skim coat like you're describing could be the only option, but I just can't see it taking less time to remove it unless it's freak paper with a super glue. Then your skim coat would suck more paint and/or would need a primer of a latex primer anyway. I'd think time and materials for a hawk and trowel skim coat and a shellac priming would be a lot more than just removing it, admittedly I'm a slow skim coater/plasterer, though. I might just be lucky, but it wasn't over 2-3 hours per room for removal. It didn't take over a couple of hours per room, and my amount of gouges on drywall was minimal, and plaster was none, just a few tiny cracks by windows. Score it with the little wheel with teeth thing on plaster, or sometimes try to pull the glossy stuff off first when dealing with drywall, then just use a garden sprayer with hot water and a good taping knife. I've been pretty lucky in all my wallpaper jobs that removal was pretty painless. Once I got the DVWP web part on the page I changed the layout to use the bulleted list style (this is the easiest style to work with IMO). This may prove to be too large if the calendar is populated with that many events, but in general there aren’t more than 20-30 future events scheduled at a given time. Paging doesn’t really work well with this solution because it uses URL query string parameters, so I set it to limit the total items returned to 1,000 (in a future post I may explore paging to see if there is any value in using paging with this plugin by hooking into those query string parameters). This allows people to view events up to three months in the past, as well as current and future events. I also sorted the events by start time in ascending order. I didn’t want to bog down the browser by loading hundreds of really old events, so I set a filter on the DVWP so that only events with a start time greater than or equal to today minus 90 days would be displayed (see this post for more information on setting up CAML query offsets). I chose the Calendar list as my data source, selected the Title field and inserted it as a “Multiple Item View.” Insert a DVWP with the calendar as the data source, and insert the Title field as a "Multiple Item View." I selected the web part zone and inserted a new DVWP. To make this happen, I used a Data View Web Part ( DVWP) to output the necessary JavaScript for the plugin to generate the calendar. This can be done in a Content Editor Web Part, but I prefer to add them in the PlaceHolderMain section. The last step in prepping the page was to open it in SPD and add references to the CSS and JavaScript files that the calendar will need just below the tag on the page (you could also put them in a Content Editor Web Part): Load the CSS and JavaScript references on the page. Next I opened that view and hid the default list view web part for the calendar. Then I switched back to the web UI, went to the calendar settings, and modified the duplicate “Calendar” view so I could rename it and set it as the default (this is the view that will contain our custom calendar). Once the files were uploaded, I copied the calendar.aspx page and renamed it CalendarCustom.aspx in SharePoint Designer ( SPD). I keep all of my resources in a "WebResources" document library grouped by the type of resource. I like to use a library called WebResources and add a choice column with options for “CSS,” “Image,” “JavaScript,” and “jQuery” so I can keep track of all of my various resources in one place, with versioning. I downloaded the latest FullCalendar package, unzipped the file, and uploaded the CSS and JavaScript files to a document library on my site. I haven’t tested this in SharePoint 2010, but it should work just fine regardless of the version (just verify all of the column references in case any of them are named differently). I remembered coming across the FullCalendar jQuery plugin a while back, so I decided to try using it with the calendar on my department’s site. This entry is part 1 of 2 in the series Building a Better SharePoint Calendar.Īs part of a large department site redesign project, I wanted to implement a better calendar solution than what MOSS 2007 gives you OOTB. The game throws everyday problems at you, and it’s up to you to come up with inventions to solve them. Patently Stupid is another game that’ll reward creativity, but it’s a mixed bag because it also relies on your ability to draw. At the final round, the best raps go against each other, so you can make the case that it really rewards the best flow. You can be as clean and dirty as you want, but either way, it’s still a joy seeing robots rap at each other with lyrics you chose yourself. Heck, you don’t even have to write anything as sometimes the CPU will fill something in just as hilarious. From there, the game will pit you against other players who had the same scenarios and act out the raps that were written. The game throws a bunch of scenarios at you with blanks that you fill in and try to rhyme. Mad Verse City is probably the best game of the bunch. Mad Verse City is probably the most casually enjoyable game in this Party Pack. It’s about taking advantage of your knowledge of how people in the room think. It requires a different brand of thinking, which makes it hard to decide whether or not someone would really like it. The object of the game is to obviously split the room with their votes of what they’d rather do, but depending upon how much you know your competition, it’s really easy to have the entire room go one way with it. Hosted by a sarcastic cat (I’m wondering if I should even have added the sarcastic label, considering that’s what the Jackbox is all about), Split The Room gives you a bunch of scenarios and requires you to fill in a blank. That in and of itself is one of the reasons why the game is frustrating, but it’s also part of the fun. But whether you’re making mistakes in a “Dis or Dat” or are completely flabbergasted from a “Gibberish Question,” you can rest assured knowing it’s almost impossible to do really well in the game. You Don’t Know Jack: Full Stream is still irreverent and relies on mindless trivia to keep players on their toes. The latest version of You Don’t Know Jack is the first update to the game since the first Jackbox Party Pack and is also the first one to make use of all the control options. This year’s Party Pack includes yet another version of You Don’t Know Jack and new games called Split the Room, Mad Verse City, Patently Stupid, and Zeeple Dome. But hey, if you can draw on your mobile device, more power to you. Yes, “drawing” games are back in The Jackbox Party Pack 5. The ability for anybody to play with their mobile device makes it all the more appealing and while there have been a handful of copycats out there, nobody has been able to come close to the success that the Jackbox Games have had. The Jackbox Party Packs put a handful of games into a box with the hopes of having at least one that sticks, and I’d say they’ve been pretty successful with every iteration. While being absolutely difficult, it was totally approachable because the game was self-aware and acknowledges that you’re there to have a good time. If you’re unfamiliar with Jackbox, it all started with the popular yet impossible PC trivia game You Don’t Know Jack. The fifth Party Pack continues that tradition, and it’s definitely the most fun its been in a while, primarily because of two games. Since its initial release in 2013, the Jackbox Party Pack has been a delight especially when you reach that point in a party where it’s largely over, but the people still at the house are sobering up or are close to considering leaving after finishing the last of your spiked punch.
